Russia conducts disinformation attacks against British vaccine

Russia is conducting a disinformation campaign against the coronavirus vaccine being developed by the University of Oxford and the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. Pictures, memes and videos depicting the British-made vaccine as dangerous were developed in Russia.

Now intermediaries are looking to distribute images on social media around the world. A leading theme in the images being circulated is that the vaccine, expected to be produced in millions of doses by pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, could turn humans into apes because it is being developed from the chimpanzee virus.

Another image shows “Uncle Sam”, behind which it is written that he wants to give “the monkey vaccine”. The disinformation campaign targets countries where Russia wants to sell its Sputnik V vaccine, as well as Western countries.
