Ukraine has pledged to involve Transcarpathian Hungarians in drafting a law on national minorities.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said following talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

“When it comes to drafting a law on national minorities, it should certainly take place with the involvement of the Hungarian community,” Kuleba said.

The minister also assured that he strives to take its interests into account: “We have to take care of the community.”

The issue of consultations with the Hungarians of Zakarpattya was raised by the Hungarian side. Hungary also considers it necessary to hold bilateral talks on the Education Act and language legislation. Ukraine has so far agreed to negotiate the first of these laws.
