The amount of Russian gas in Poland is decreasing, which now covers 60% of domestic demand, and by 2022 the country wants to finally free itself from gas supply from Russia. It is reported by Polskie Radio with reference to the head of the Polish oil and gas company PGNiG Jerzy Kwiecinski.
To this end, Poland is developing an LNG gas port in Swinoust. Now the terminal named after Lech and Maria Kaczynski has a capacity of 5 billion cubic meters, which satisfies a quarter of the country’s domestic needs. The development of the facility will allow importing almost 8.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Jerzy Kwiecinski noted that gas is being supplied to the Polish gas port, in particular from Qatar and the United States. And in 2022, the Polish economy plans to completely free itself from gas supplies from Russia, which 4 years ago amounted to 87% of domestic demand.
