The Arvin ship, which sank off the Turkish coast, was carrying 10 Ukrainian nationals.

The spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, said in a statement.

“From the vessel Arvin, which was sailing under the flag of Palau, rescued 5 Ukrainian and 1 foreigner. They are hospitalized. Their condition is satisfactory. The relatives have been informed. The search – clarification – for the 5 sailors continues,” the diplomat wrote on Twitter.

He added that Ukrainian consuls had left for the port of Bartyn to provide consular assistance.

Bartyn provincial governor Aydın Sinan Güner said the ship belonged to a Ukrainian company.

“We stated that the ship was Russian-flagged, but we found out that it was the flag of Palau. The ship was carrying cargo from Georgia to Bulgaria. The crew tried to flee to the port of Bartyn because of the weather conditions. The crew consists mainly of Ukrainian citizens,” he said.
