Russian disinformation campaign against Ukraine

In Portugal, there is an active deployment of a new informational special operation against Ukraine, during which the messages characteristic of Russian propaganda are disseminated.

The culmination of the Russian special operation was on June 21, 2020. One of the most popular Portuguese newspapers, Público, published 3 articles at once, in which Ukraine was called the “cradle of world modern Nazism” and the “training ground for neo-Nazis from around the world.” And on June 23, the publication was repeated.

Despite the numerous international documents defining the war in eastern Ukraine as the aggression of Russia, the author of these articles, Ricardo Cabral Fernandes, is actively promoting the Kremlin’s narrative “civil war in the Donbass” in Portuguese space. Accuses Ukrainians of fascism, Nazism and neo-Nazism.

Ukrainians who live in Portugal and have an active civil position have prepared an open appeal to parliament asking them to pay attention to the activities of Russian special services.

The purpose of the Russian special services is clear. They are trying to set up civil society in Portugal against Ukraine. Because Portugal provides political support to Ukraine in the struggle for sovereignty and independence. It is one of the countries that recognized the Holodomor as genocide. Portugal voted for the North Atlantic Council to recognize Ukraine as a member of the NATO Enhanced Opportunity Program.
