The Crimea: Captive Holiday

Ninety-four Ukrainian political prisoners, residents of the Crimean peninsula are held in the temporarily occupied Crimea and the Russian Federation, about 70 of them are Crimean Tatars.

“As for the illegally detained Ukrainian citizens living in Crimea, 94 Ukrainian political prisoners are held now in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea and the Russian Federation, about 70 of them are Crimean Tatars,” Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korynevych said, the President’s website informs.

As noted, the issue of release of illegally detained citizens of Ukraine is constantly raised by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, primarily the President and diplomats, at the international level.

Lets remind, June 26 is the day of the Crimean Tatar flag, which became a symbol of inflexibility and courage for the whole world, the struggle for their rights and for the return of Crimea under the control of Ukraine.

It is undeniable that in the occupied Crimea for a clear pro-Ukrainian position the Crimean Tatars are persecuted and discriminated. The Crimean Tatars constitute the majority of political prisoners.
