The diplomat explained how Iran will pay for the downed UIA plane
The diplomat explained that both the amount of compensation and the timing of its payment are subject to agreement between the parties.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Volodymyr Vasilenko said that the compensation for the Ukrainian UIA Boeing 737 passenger plane shot down in Tehran (Iran) should be targeted.
“Compensation will not be received by the state of Ukraine, but by the relatives of the victims and the airline.”
According to the diplomat, given that Iran has pleaded guilty to the disaster, there is no need to convene a UN Security Council. “Now another thing is much more important – the issue of compensation,” he stressed.Vasilenko explained that both the amount of compensation and the timing of its payment are subject to agreement between the parties. “First, they agree on a formula by which the amount of compensation will be calculated, then the terms of real compensation are agreed.”
The diplomat also spoke about two international documents that can be applied – the Warsaw Convention of 1929 and the Montreal Convention of 1999 on the rules of international air transport. “They provide for compensation criteria,” he explained.
